Subject: Hands to Honduras update
Hola,
I am off to Honduras again on Monday, February 9 in order
to prepare for two major activities. The first is the arrival of a
work crew. The work crew will be from February 21 to March 2
....however, the current volunteers have chosen different arrival
and/or departure dates. We will be working on two water projects
...one will be to build a filter system for the 150 residents of the
Pech Indian village of Moradel where we built a water storage tank
last year. And the other will be preparation work for the Global
grant ...more on that in a second.
If you want to volunteer please let me know soon!!! Volunteers
pay their own expenses...logistics can be found on our website
We also still need tax deductible donations for our work...they can
be sent to:
Hands to Honduras, Inc. PO Box 1733, Port Isabel Texas 78578.
The Global Grant was approved yesterday for $102,475.00....thanks
to donations from 35 clubs and individuals that will be matched by
the Rotary Foundation!!! This project has eaten much of our
available donations...so please consider sending money to help with
our other projects!
The Global Grant from the Rotary Foundation will build a dam with
a sediment filter (during the rainy season the water to the homes is
full of sediment...I have that at my house in Trujillo) on a river that
will provide water 24 hours a day during the rainy season and 5
hours a day during the dry season....far better than the every 8 days
that currently exists. We will also be laying 1.8 miles of pipeline to
the site of the new 50000 gallon tank. And we will be replacing the
distribution pipeline that serves the 400 homes in the Barrio.
The new operating budget that we have developed will allow for 3
and 1/2 employees...including a full time health hygienist...and it
will allow for a reserve fund to upgrade the system in the short term
and replace the system in the long term...if needed.
Thanks for your continuing interest in service for the
people of Honduras!!!
