A resident all his life, Billy Delgado has served the City of Corpus Christi in various capacities over
the past 28 years.
Delgado coordinated the shelter operations for Hurricane Katrina evacuees. He also coordinated
the evacuation for Hurricane Rita. For the past five years, Delgado has served as the Emergency
Management Coordinator of the City of Corpus Christi.
Delgado spoke to the members of Southside Corpus Christi Rotary club on how the Emergency
Operation Center (EOC) prepares the city for extreme weather such as hurricanes, hail, flooding
and so on. He said that the city takes a proactive approach and individuals should too. "You have
to plan for extreme weather every year, or you will not be prepared," he warned.
The EOC coordinates between different agencies, establishes priorities and manages resources
during emergencies.
Delgado talked about the need to have clean water and food supplies, to plan with family for evacuation
prior to disaster, to protect homes and property, and also how to take advantage of the extensive
services provided by the city.
For his presentation, Delgado received a pin from Scott Sutherland on behalf of the club.
