Our 12th Annual Southside Rotary Administrative Professionals Day was a success with keynote speaker State Representative Todd Hunter. We'll have results of our fundraiser in coming weeks but appreciate all the support of club members and the community who purchased tables or individual tickets and who donated to the raffle and silent auction. Club members produced the entire event for a 12th year so hardworking Administrative Professionals could have a nice lunch, an engaging speaker, and win some fun raffle prizes! Great job of Service Above Self everyone!
See more photos in the album section of our newsletter and website. Thank you to Gary N. Blum, DDS, MS for the great photos at each of our meetings and fundraisers!
Students from St. John Paul II High School Rotary Interact Club partnered with Habitat for Humanity on April 20 by painting the interior of a house on Guadalupe Street which included the living room, dining area, closets and bedrooms.
Thank you to Southside Rotary's David Walker and Ted Garcia from John Paul II High School for sharing this Habitat for Humanity story that appeared in South Texas Catholic.
Students from St. John Paul II High School Rotary Interact Club partnered with Habitat for Humanity on April 20, 2018 by painting the interior of a house on Guadalupe Street which included the living room, dining area, closets and bedrooms.
"The construction foreman for Habitat for Humanity was quite impressed with our students who stayed focused on why they were there and were receptive to instruction," Rotary Interact Club sponsor, Ted Garcia, said. Habitat for Humanity and volunteers help homeowners build or improve a home to make it affordable for families in need of a decent place to live. "The students' clothes were a bit more colorful when we left the house. What a pleasure it is to work with our students," Garcia said.
Student volunteers were Emily Ayala, Gabriella Ayarzagoitia, Apolonio Esquiviel, Victoria Fuentes, Bridget Lee Sang, Grabrielle Lopez, Ryan Lopez, Savannah Martinez, Zenaida Perez, Bernadette Salazar, Josiah Salinas, Alexandria Serna and Maya Trevino.
Enjoy this great update from our Rotary District 5930 Global Grant Scholar Kayla Stovall!
"Good Day Everyone,
It's your favourite procrastinating postgrad student reporting to you live from the University of Edinburgh main library, only five days late with March Blog updates (my apologies). As always, I hope you enjoy the read. Please respond with a request/ or questions you have about my life in Edinburgh that you would like me to highlight on in the next April blog update.
David Walker is looking for some great Rotarians to help fill in our program dates in the summer. Interesting programs boost attendance and attract new members!
Southside Rotary Honored by Corpus Christi ISD for Early Act First Knight Program
On March 29, 2018 Southside Rotary was recognized by the Corpus Christi Independent School District for our Partnership In Education by supporting Rose Shaw Elementary School and their Early Act First Knight Program.
Plan on attending our April 18 meeting to learn about the recognition award and meeting some Early Act students presenting a program on their EAFK Service Club activities.

Camp Aranzazu Tree Planting Project hosted by the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi
The Rotary Club of Corpus Christi needed help planting 100 trees at Camp Aranzazu a special needs outdoor camp in Rockport, Texas that suffered severe damage from Hurricane Harvey. Special thanks to District 5930 for providing funding for this important project. The project took place on Saturday, March 10, 2018 with all Rotarians in District 5930 invited to help. Southside Rotary's own IPDG Debbie High and AG for Area 4, and current District 5930 Secretary PN Nancy Ross planted trees and cleaned tables. They had a great photo op with PDG Maxie Houser and John Landers, Past President of the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi.
Our District 5930 Rotary Global Scholar sent a terrific report on her continuing adventures.
Hello District 5930 Rotarians,
I just wanted to share this email with you all and let you know that your Rotary 5930 influence has traveled to the Scottish/English borders to Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright. This is a small Scottish town with a population 3,500 and 51 active Rotarians. It was my first Rotary presentation as a Global Scholar. The Rotarian, Mike Dugid, and his wife Pat hosted another scholar and I in their home as we traveled an hour train ride from Edinburgh to share our Rotary story. It was a wonderful experience and I will share more about it in my next blog.
P.S. I will have a club flag for you all when I get back to the states in September.
Sincerely ,
Kayla Stovall
Her host had some very kind words for her after her presentation:
Hi Kayla,
I hope you made it back to Edinburgh OK. It was a joy to host you and Carlyn and thank you for a wonderful, inspiring, talk last night. One Rotarian came up to me afterwards and said that your talk would undoubtedly have a major impact on one member of the club whose enthusiasm for Rotary was beginning to fade. For that alone my thanks.
I found your blog online and saw you striding across the Edinburgh streets. A great way to keep the folks back home updated on your time in Scotland.
John Frew, our club’s RYLA organizer whom you met last night, has email the District coordinator to emphasize the fact that you would be willing to act as a mentors.
