This Beautiful logo was drawn for us by Joe McInnis.
Joe was a member of Southside Rotary many years ago.
He was in a wheelchair and had almost no use of his arms or hands.
He drew the boat with his mouth and teeth.

Rotary was recognized on 17 September on public television's fifth annual American Graduate Day program for its work with San Diego-based Monarch School, a K-12 school for homeless youth. The Rotary Club of San Diego, California, USA, was applauded for its work mentoring Monarch's students, keeping them on track to graduate, and helping the school to continue thriving during tough economic times. Monarch School CEO Erin Spiewak appeared as one of the show's guests, along with Monarch Alumnus Cynthia Valenzuela, who attested to the positive, life-changing experience Monarch School gave her and...

The Rotary Foundation has received the highest possible score from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S. In the most recent ratings, released on 1 September, The Rotary Foundation earned the maximum 100 points for both financial health and accountability and transparency. The ratings reflect how efficiently Charity Navigator believes the Foundation will use donations, how well it has sustained programs and services, and its level of commitment to good governance and openness. In the previous rating, the Foundation had received 97 points.

Each month, eBay, the world’s largest auction website, selects a set of upcoming Live Auction events and donates a portion of all sales proceeds to Rotary. Only U.S. auction sales are eligible. See the schedule of September auctions.

Rotary clubs of District 6200 are collecting relief funds to help thousands of victims after record flooding devastated communities in southern Louisiana, USA, earlier this month. Torrential rains caused rivers, streams, and bayous to swell, damaging or destroying more than 60,000 homes and killing at least 13 people. The U.S. Coast Guard and emergency responders helped rescue more than 30,000 residents from the rising flood waters. As of 25 August, more than 3,000 residents were still in emergency shelters even after the water receded. Donate to District 6200 disaster relief fund.

Legendary singer and polio survivor Donovan Leitch, better known simply as Donovan, has joined Rotary in its fight to eradicate the paralyzing disease that afflicted him during much of his childhood. Donovan contracted polio at age three in Glasgow, Scotland. The disease weakened his right leg and left it thinner and shorter than the other. Confined to his bed for much of his childhood, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer said his father would read him poetry. In a recent interview with the Daily Express, Donovan said that listening to poetry piqued his interest in creative writing. “If I...

[Rotary Club Invocation:

Thank you for agreeing to say the invocation for our Rotary Meeting.  The Rotary Club of
Southside Corpus Christi includes persons of many different religions, beliefs and ideals,
and we aim to respect the  religious beliefs of others, while remaining faithful to our own.
Please make your invocation a non-denominational,  inclusive one that recognizes these
religious diversities and avoid references pertinent only to a particular set of religious  beliefs.

Thank you for your cooperation and participation.]

Meeting Program

Meeting Program:

(Pictured below: VP David Walker)

The special guests were Jane Dare Haas and Mr. Tom Klassen.

Both individuals educated the club members on the services provided
by HALO-Flight, an air ambulance operation, with helicopters based
in Corpus Christi, Beeville and Alice.

HALO-Flight, responds to calls, and offers assistance to individuals who
require critical care, regardless of their ability to pay.  HALO-Flight covers
over 28,000 square miles and makes its services available to over one and
half million people; and has done so over a 30-year period.

The services that HALO-Flight provides has made a huge difference to the
lives of fragile new-born babies, heart-attack patients, accident victims and so
many others who may not have had the chance to survive.

You can learn more about this organization from their website -

Jane Dare Haas, marketing director at HALO-Flight, Inc., has twenty years
of healthcare and transportation marketing experience, and fifteen years of
speech communication classroom instruction experience at Del Mar College
in Corpus Christi, Texas.

A mother of three and a grandmother of a three-year-old grandson, Ms. Haas'
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre is from the University of Memphis,
and her Master's Degree is from Texas A&M University — Corpus Christi.

Haas is also a graduate of Leadership Corpus Christi, Class XX; on the Board
of Directors of the Westside Business Association, and Vice Chair of the
Professional and Networking Advisory Committee of the Behavioral Health Center
of Nueces County.

Mr. Tom Klassen grew up in Claremore, Oklahoma and started flying a spotting
helicopter off of a Mexican tuna fishing boat in Central America at age 19. He has
lived and worked in Papua New Guinea, Australia, Thailand, Russia, Eastern
Europe, and all over the United States including Hawaii and Alaska, but has found
a home here in Corpus Christi.

He has had an exciting flying career having flown helicopter logging operations in
Alaska, bush flying in Papua New Guinea, TV reporting in Boston, aerial firefighting
missions in Alaska and the West Coast, tours in Hawaii, and a Russian fighter jet in
air shows for seven years.

However, in his over 10,000 hours of flight time, he feels that the twenty years spent
transporting patients in helicopters has been the most rewarding.

Tom started with HALO-Flight as the Director of Operations in 2010 and was promoted
to Executive Director a year later. He is the FAA designated company check airman
and continues to fly patients whenever given the opportunity.

He currently serves as Past President for the Texas Association of Air Medical Services,
National Chairman of the Directors of Operations Section for the AAMS, Board Member
of the Air Medical Operators Association. He is a member of the Helicopter Association
International, the National EMS Pilots Association, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots
Association. Outside of work, he is an active member of the Soaring Society of America,
and can be found flying his sailplane most weekends.

Tom Klassen's biographies)
