This Beautiful logo was drawn for us by Joe McInnis.
Joe was a member of Southside Rotary many years ago.
He was in a wheelchair and had almost no use of his arms or hands.
He drew the boat with his mouth and teeth.

"Cheesehead" is a nickname referring to a person from Wisconsin,
referring to the large volume of production of Wisconsin cheese.
It is also the nickname for the fans of the Green Bay Packers NFL
football franchise.  The term is also used as an ethnic slur towards
the Dutch.

The current use of the term "cheesehead" as a derogatory word for
Wisconsinites originated with Illinois football and baseball fans to refer
to opposing Wisconsin sports fans. The term, however, was quickly
embraced by Wisonsinites and is now a point of pride.

Did you know?  Sheriff Jim Kaelin and President John Owen had a bet on which
team will win the football game, the Green Bay Packers or the Cowboys.

The Green Bay Packers beat the Cowboys, and Sheriff Kaelin had to wear the
"cheesehead" hat.

This week's speaker was Paul "Rocky" Kettering, Vice President of the Texas State Aquarium.

(Paul Kettering, VP Texas State Aquarium pictured below.

Paul Kettering stated that the Texas State Aquarium which opened in
July 1990, and currently receives over 500,000 visits per year has plans
for a $50 Million expansion.  The expansion should double its size and
increase its traffic to over 700,000 visits yearly.

The expansion, which has been named the "Caribbean Journey" exhibit is
scheduled to open in January 2017.  The goal of the expansion is to bring
the effervescent wildlife of the Yucatan Peninsula and Western Caribbean
sea to South Texas.

Kettering says that while the Aquarium's focus today is on advancing
conservation efforts, wildlife rehabilitation, and show-casing marine research.
The Aquarium further aims at becoming the Nation's premier center of
excellence for Science, Technology, Education and Math.

Highlights of the expansion will include a 4-D theater, a giant shark tank,
and a growth of wildlife rehabilitation and conservation programs.

The Texas State Aquarium currently has a $62 Million economic impact on
the Corpus Christi Community.  It attracts local and international visitors, and
employs approximately 125 individuals.  It also has over 200 volunteers.

The expansion should make Texas State Aquarium, which according to Kettering
was voted second place in the country, the nation's premier Aquarium.
