This Beautiful logo was drawn for us by Joe McInnis.
Joe was a member of Southside Rotary many years ago.
He was in a wheelchair and had almost no use of his arms or hands.
He drew the boat with his mouth and teeth.

According to a 2012 report by UNICEF and the World Health Organization, Ghana has made great strides in providing its people with clean drinking water. But access to better sanitation has lagged. Only about 14 percent of Ghanaians have access to improved facilities, compared with the 54 percent target set for 2015 by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Addressing the issue isn't simple, as pit latrines need emptying, toilets need maintenance, and promoting hygiene requires education. The H2O Collaboration, a partnership between Rotary and the U.S. Agency for International...

In the Esmeraldas Province of Ecuador, Rotary members have teamed up with a microfinance organization to provide small loans to poor women, teaching them to sew and bake so they can start or expand businesses. The Rotary Club of Marin Evening, in California, USA, reached out to 64 Rotary clubs in seven districts including Ecuador's, to raise money, find support from partners, and mobilize local community members for a global grant project. Keith Axtell, a member of the Marin Evening club, says the effort began in 2005-06, when his wife, Holly, was district governor and was looking for an...

An increase to the Council on Legislation dues goes into effect in July, and it will be reflected on the July club invoice. The Rotary International Board of Directors approved the increase from $1 to $1.50 in October 2014. The Council, which meets every three years, will meet 10-15 April in Chicago. The Council considers proposals to change RI's constitutional documents and resolutions that express an opinion or make a recommendation to the Board. RI's Bylaws, which govern the relationship between Rotary International and Rotary clubs, can be changed only by legislation by the Council. The...

When it comes to Rotary, Mitty Chang is practically a lifer – and he's only 26. Chang joined Interact 10 years ago in Fremont, Calif., where almost a quarter of the 2,000 students at his high school were Interactors. He went on to organize two Rotaract clubs. Now an entrepreneur who works with small businesses and nonprofits to build their online identity and brand, he plans to become a Rotarian within the next few years. "I expect to have a long life in Rotary," he says. We caught up with Chang at the 2014 Rotary convention in Sydney, Australia, to find out what being a member of the Rotary...

[Rotary Club Invocation:

Thank you for agreeing to say the invocation for our Rotary Meeting.  The Rotary Club of
Southside Corpus Christi includes persons of many different religions, beliefs and ideals,
and we aim to respect the  religious beliefs of others, while remaining faithful to our own.
Please make your invocation a non-denominational,  inclusive one that recognizes these
religious diversities and avoid references pertinent only to a particular set of religious  beliefs.

Thank you for your cooperation and participation.]

David Walker introduced this week's speaker, Patty Clark, CEO and
Executive Director for Corpus Christi Metro Ministries. Originally from
Memphis Tennessee, Clark and her husband have been residents of
Corpus Christi since 1983.  She had started her career-life as a Legal
Administrator for a local law firm, but transitioned out into the "world of
non-profit" when she accepted the offer to become the Executive Director
of a local non-profit in June of 2007.  In 2012, Clark accepted the
position
of CEO for Corpus Christi Metro Ministries, an organization that allows her
to see the impact that feeding, sheltering and transforming lives has on
every successful client and on on our communities.

According to Clark, the Metro Ministries meets the basic needs of those
individuals is the community who are poor, homeless or at risk.

The Metro Ministries serves the community through five major programs, The Gabbard Memorial Health Clinic-
A free primary care clinic; Loaves and Fishes - A free cafeteria; Rainbow House Shelter - which provides transitional

housing for homeless women and children; Rustic House Shelter - A transitional housing program for mentally and
physically disabled men; and lastly, Vineyard Social Services - An intake facility for all services provided by the Metro
Ministries.

Metro Ministries provides other services to the community, apart from
feeding the homeless and providing housing and healthcare to the
homeless; such services include the building of three public libraries.

The organization is heavily supported by volunteer services.  To learn more about the Metro Ministries,
visit their website at http://www.ccmetro.org/.

Patty Clark brought in a former homeless individual, Delores Gilloth, who benefited from the programs of
the Ministries, to tell her story.

Delores said that she came to Corpus Christi in 2013 from New Mexico, and struggled to find a job.  She
found the Metro Ministries, who provided her with food and clothing, her obligation was to find a job and
save money.

According to Gilloth, it took her one year from working with various organizations to find work as a security
officer.  Gilloth recently moved into her own apartment (just last week); and was provided supplies and support
for the move by Metro Ministries.  Gilloth stated that she has been at luncheons where she has seen donors
writing checks to make things happen for people like herself.

For her presentation, Patty Clark received a four-way test pin from President John Owen.
