This Beautiful logo was drawn for us by Joe McInnis.
Joe was a member of Southside Rotary many years ago.
He was in a wheelchair and had almost no use of his arms or hands.
He drew the boat with his mouth and teeth.

When Mariana Day moved in 1989 to the small beach town of Chacala, in Nayarit, Mexico, she noticed that the surrounding rural areas struggled to maintain schools. And most children weren’t able to go beyond an eighth-grade education. Day, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Bahía de Jaltemba-La Peñita, in Nayarit, had started a local scholarship program before she joined Rotary. Called Changing Lives, the program provided students with high school tuition, uniforms, school supplies, and transportation. In addition, Rotary clubs from the United States and Mexico have been investing in the...

Meeting Program
Meeting Program:

(Pictured below: John Thurston)

Introduced by John Thurston, the week's special
guest was John Martinez, volunteer coordinator
at River City Hospice.

John Martinez talked to the club about the Hospice.   According to Martinez, Hospice is a special
way of caring for those individuals who are at the end of life.  Some are not dying but are in a
position where cannot help themselves, the doctor cannot do anything more for them, or are just
sick.  He said the primary purpose of the presentation was to let people know that there is a great
need for volunteers.

Volunteers to the Hospice do not need to do much, they will assist with sitting, listening to the patients
running errands or even building ramps.  The most important need, Martinez said was to sit with the
patients and listen to them, to allow their providers time to run around and do what they needed to do.
He stated that one hour of volunteer time a week is golden, and that volunteering allows the patients to
rejuvenate themselves.
