Dear Rotarians and Friends,

This beginning of 2014 is full of exciting programs for our Club meetings, and I hope you'll be able to join us for all of them:
  • Next Meeting, Jan 15, 2014, Tanya Hrobowski-Simpson, Coordinator will present us the Spohn Community Health & Wellness Program
  • Then, Jan 22, 2014, is District Governor Maxie Houser's visit to our Club. Please make sure you can attend.
  • Finally, on Jan 29, 2014, we'll have our second Vocational visit. This time, our very own Sheriff Jim Kaelin will be our host as with visit the Jail. Lunch will be offered there.
How and Why We Give
Even though our Club members already have their favorite face to link with their resolve, this a kind of story that's always good to read, and remember:Rotarian Francis K. Achampong - polio survivor:
When Francis K. Achampong joined the Rotary Club of Waynesboro in 2013, he learned about the organization’s efforts to eradicate polio and was able to put a face on the cause.

Today's Program
Today's speaker Marjorie Chavez, Director of Mission Services and Community Health and Wellness at Christus Spohn Health System, spoke to Rotarians about the health and wellness programs offered to Christus Spohn employees and the various Coastal Bend communities.  The Christus Spohn Health System has been serving our community for over 100 years.  There are three hospitals located in Corpus Christi and three hospitals outside of Corpus Christi in Kingsville, Alice, and Beeville.  Their mission is to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ in order to build healthy communities.  Employee wellness programs provide annual health risk assessments, personal health profiles with counseling, and group wellness profiles for the staff to see.  Christus Spohn's Care Van, sponsored by the American Bank Center, also takes medical services out to the community; in 2013, over 3,000 people were served.  There are women's services that provide exams, tests, screenings, wellness education, immunizations, and medical supplies.  There are also opportunities for high school and college students to visit the hospitals and gain experience while they are going to school.  Thank you, Christus Spohn, for making our community a healthier place to live!
Pete's Report
Pete's Financial Report:  The Dow is up and the Nasdaq is up today.  The price of crude oil is going up as well.
Betty's Quote
Betty's Quote was read by Matt Beavers:
"Whenever I fill out an application, in the part that says, 'In the case of an emergency, please notify:' I always put, 'The DOCTOR.'"
