Andy Hagan, District 5930 Foundation Chair was at the Southside Rotary Club meeting to talk about, "What we do and how we are doing as a foundation".
Andy Hagan thanked the district for their generous contributions, stating that last year, "We set a historic record for the district by totaling over $228,000, which represents per capita givings of over $123 per individual, and we had all clubs in the district participate in some form or fashion, which is very commendable...." Hagan stressed that, "The dollars we contribute help to support those in need across the world and in our communities, and because we are an international service foundation, the world is our community."
Hagan also talked about the Foundation's support for grassroots programs.

Sheriff Jim Kaelin "Did you know?
(Sheriff, Jim Kaelin. Picture courtesy: Gary Blum)
"Did you know? The electric chair is quintessentially an American invention?
The world's first execution by electrocution took place in 1890,
and it remained the most common form of execution until the 1980s.
Death row inmates in ten states may still choose the electric chair.
The electric chair was invented by Alfred P. Southwick (1826 - 1898) from Buffalo, New York.
And, as a Rotary point of interest I might add, Mr. Southwick, was better known as Dr. Southwick, a New York dentist."
Kaelin ended this weeks, "Did you Know", with the thought,
"So the next time you go to your dentist and he/she tells you this won't hurt, ah, well... Ok."
